Mini-MBA FAQs

A Mini-MBA is for management, executive and senior personnel to get a rapid-fire education in business or a specific area within business.

Though a Mini-MBA is not a traditional MBA, you do get a solid knowledge, excellent networking connections, and a certificate from an accredited university.

A Mini-MBA is designed for participants to learn in deep, specialized areas of knowledge, with a focus on tools and applicability to the work environment.

The Rutgers Business School Mini-MBA is delivered across 10 topics. How long this takes can vary depending on the Mini-MBA and the format of delivery. Some are run as an intensive 5-day in-class format, some are spread over three 2-day in-class sessions to enable attendance. Online delivery usually occurs over 12 weeks.

A mini-MBA can be for mid to senior level people who are looking to expand their knowledge – either to keep updated in a particular field, or to expand to encompass new roles they have taken on, or for personal development.

Participants typically have anywhere from 4-30 years work experience and tend to be mid to upper level managers (with or without direct reports), coming from every discipline, size and type of organization. This includes private companies, not-for- profits and government services.

Mini-MBA participants are those that are eager to ensure their knowledge about particular topics are up-to-date and relevant in today’s competitive landscape.

There is usually a maximum of 8 hours of pre-course reading or videos. This is to prepare you for the materials that will be covered in the course. There is also typically a final group presentation or project, however you will be given time to complete this as part of your course.

Typically, Mini-MBAs are open to all levels of experience and the class will include participants with a diverse range of professional backgrounds. In some cases, particular experience will be useful in accelerating the application of concepts, but this will be highlighted as part of the information for that particular Mini-MBA.
