Managerial Economic Analysis
In-person | 28 September – 6 October 2024
What pricing strategies can I use to sell my product or service? Should we open a new facility to reduce the unit cost of the product we sell? How can I increase the demand for our product or service? How much should I sell to maximize my profit? What effect do productivity changes have in the number of workers I should employ? Does it matter if I am the only player in the market with a specialized product or service offering vs. being just one of many selling comparable products or services?
These are questions faced by business managers on a daily basis, including myself. I teach in this class the concepts and tools that I use to effectively manage the business I work at in the corporate world.
During a typical class of mine, I will spend some time teaching a concept and explaining why it is important, and then we will immediately move on to read several articles from the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, etc. where I will show you how such concept works in the real world.
This is a not-for-credit course. E-certificates of Completion will be issued to participants upon the satisfactory completion of the course.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply economic principles to help make real-world business management decisions.
- Make sound product pricing decisions based on your understanding of the demand for a firm’s products and the preferences of consumers.
- Maximize profits and meet production targets at least cost, based on your understanding of a firm’s production processes and costs.
- Diagnose key market structures and use your knowledge of the strategic behavior of competitors to improve pricing and other business management decisions.
- Extend the concepts we discuss in class to help you understand new business management situations and develop and analyze new management strategies.
About Prof. Ignacio Vijil-Cabrera
Professor Vijil-Cabrera teaches Managerial Economic Analysis to Executive MBA students in New Jersey, Singapore and China, where he combines his real life experience and dynamic teaching style with his solid understanding of economic theory.
“The emphasis of my classes is on pragmatic and applicable microeconomic subjects. I try to spend as long as possible relating the concepts at hand to current events. The Wall Street Journal and The Economist (to name a few) are more important in my class than the text book. I have delivered training in a corporate setting to over 3,000 executives worldwide, so I know that the students are not only interested in what one is teaching, but in how to apply it as well.”
In addition to EMBA Director Farrokh Langdana’s course, both Prof. Vijil- Cabrera and Prof. Langdana’s economics courses have been
S$3,745 inclusive of GST, course materials and e-certificate.
