Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
In-person | 23 November 2024 – 1 December 2024
This course introduces students to the assumptions, principles, and practice of financial accounting as per IFRS. The class presents a thorough analysis of the income statement, the balance sheet, and the statement of cash flow. The emphasis is on using financial statement information for equity valuation and risk analysis. The heavy reliance on estimates in constructing financial statements is highlighted.
This is a not-for-credit course. E-certificates of Completion will be issued to participants upon the satisfactory completion of the course.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of the major elements of financial accounting
- Understand the importance of the elements of financial accounting in the business world
- Apply what they are learning by analyzing the financial statements of publicly traded firms
About Dr. Valentine Dimitrov
Dr. Valentin Dimitrov is an associate professor and vice chair at the Department of Accounting & Information Systems at Rutgers Business School at Rutgers University. Dr. Dimitrov’s research focuses on the functioning of capital markets. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics and the Review of Financial Studies.
