The University

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey embodies the historical development of higher education in the United States. From its colonial inception as Queen’s College in 1766, the institution grew to become one of the oldest, largest, and most distinguished institution of higher learning in the U.S. Rutgers is the 8th oldest University in America and one of nine Colonial Colleges in the US that includes Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Pennsylvania, and Columbia. With the merger of University of Medicine & Dentistry New Jersey (UMDNJ) and Rutgers University on 1 July 2013, we now have a community of more than 65,000 students and more than 24,400 faculty and staff located across three campuses in Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark with an annual budget of US$3.78 billion (FY2015-2016).

Today, we are among the leading universities in the nation with more research spending than Harvard, Yale or Northwestern University (Read more). Rutgers graduates have been making their marks on the world. Our notable alumni include pioneers in science and medicine, authors, Fulbright scholars, Nobel Laureates, NASA astronauts, CEOs of major corporations, generals in the US Armed Forces, members of US Congress, Pulitzer Prize winning writers, university presidents and a Vice President of the United States. Association of American Universities

AAURutgers is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). AAU is a nonprofit organization of 62 leading public and private research universities in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1900 to advance the international standing of U.S. research universities, AAU today focuses on issues that are important to research-intensive universities, such as funding for research, research policy issues, and graduate and undergraduate education.

Membership in AAU is by invitation and is based on the high quality of programs of academic research and scholarship and undergraduate, graduate, and professional education in a number of fields, as well as general recognition that a university is outstanding by reason of the excellence of its research and education programs.

Middle States Commission on Higher Education

Rutgers University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The university has been classified as a research university with ‘Very High Research Activity”.

Big 10 Conference

As of 1 July 2014, Rutgers is part of the Big 10 Conference. Joining the Big Ten Conference is a momentous milestone for Rutgers. It brings new opportunities for academic collaboration and for athletic competition. Rutgers is already an academic powerhouse. Joining the Big Ten means membership in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a consortium of 15 world-class research universities, including all Big Ten members and the University of Chicago. This alliance gives our students and faculty opportunities for meaningful scholarly collaborations as well as access to members-only databases, conferences, and library collections.

Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick is an integral part of one of the United States’ oldest, largest, and most distinguished institutions of higher learning: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick (RBS) was founded in 1929 and has been accredited since 1941 by AACSB International.  Today it is the hallmark of excellence in business education in a state renowned for its leadership in entrepreneurship and corporate innovation. Today the Executive MBA program is offered in the United States and Singapore and is often regarded as one of the top 25 EMBA programs in the US by Financial Times.

One business school accreditation represents the highest standards in the world, and has since 1916 – The Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business International (AACSB International). AACSB International accreditation is an achievement earned only by programs of the highest caliber. Currently, less than 5% of the 13,000 business schools programs worldwide have earned this prestigious accreditation. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review. Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick has been accredited by AACSB International since 1941.
